Hello, and welcome to the MSKB (MacShadows Knowledge Base) wiki. A vast archive of knowledge gathered by the MacShadows.com, TSF, #UGM, & machacking.net communities.

Installing KDE on Mac OS X

First you will need to get and install Fink. You can get Fink from http://fink.sourceforge.net. It installs quite easily so just follow the on screen instructions.

Next you have to configure Fink. To do this open Terminal.app (located in /Applications/Utilities) and use your favorite text editor to open the file located at "/sw/etc/fink.conf"

My favorite text editor is pico so I will be demonstrating using that. Run the command.. "sudo pico /sw/etc/fink.conf"

You will be prompted for your password.

On the line that begins with "Trees" (usually the 4th line down) enter "unstable/main” and “unstable/crypto” at the end of the line.


Save your file by typing "control+o" and exit by typing "control+x"

The MacShadows KB has finally been upgraded over a year after it was announced :P. This upgrade has introduced captchas so should help to cut down on the large amount of spam the KB has been attracting. The upgrade also introduces all the new features MediaWiki has introduced over the past couple of years. Enjoy!

FYI, Siph0n and I have a large upgrade and revamp planned for the MSKB. A few tidbits of news:
