There's been recent talk of moving #UGM to another network. Please weigh in on how you all feel about this. I'd like to hear if you want to stay on Undernet or move to another network. Please give as much info as possible (such as, if you want to move to another network, please give suggestions for networks you like).

To get you started, here's my pro/con list for staying on undernet:

Pros:

1. #UGM has been on undernet a long time, everyone knows where to find it
2. The channel is already registered

Cons:

1. Undernet sucks
2. Netsplits
3. Lack of services (chanserv/nickserv)
4. Everybody hates Undernet.

I would REALLY like services. Undernet does suck, and those Netsplits are teh suck.

However, I can put up with all that. But throw my vote in for a move to some other network with services, and keep the channel #UGM, as opposed to #MacShadows. ;-)

My $1.00 / 50.

Anywhere but UnderNet is fine.

irc.osx86.hu is a great underground Mac network that may be worth looking in to using. We could always run our own community network as well. In any case no matter where we go I think we should certainly have Spratt_ setup a DNS A record to forward irc.macshadows.com to the network round robin.

I say we'll move... Undernet doesn't bother me, but I know a lot of members that don't hang around the channel because they dislike it.

Maybe we should change where the site is hosted as a lot of the irc guys don't come here :P Seriously though, I don't mind if we move but there is a chance there will be a drop in users of the channel as people won't be able to find it. Keep #UGM on undernet at least for a transition period with a message saying where the new channel is hosted.

If we do move then I'd like to see something more secure. SSL support please!

I'm not sure I visit the channel enough to vote on this one, but I agree that there would be a drop in activity. We have worked for a long time to get #UGM on undernet going. However, it seems that the most active IRC users are for a move, and this impacts them the most.

Darling you gotta let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
Ill be here til the end of time
So you got to let know
Should I stay or should I go?

I hate Undernet with a passion. So naturally I vote go.
